Construction Conundrum!

August 4th, 2010 by

You know it’s summer in Indiana when orange construction barrels pop up all over the area’s most-traveled roadways. So, how can you avoid headaches as you make your daily commute? For starters, follow these tips for staying safe — and sane! — in a construction zone:

Plan ahead
If you know one of the main roads on your normal route is under construction, consider going another way.

Slow down
This is important for everyone’s safety, but it’s also an important consideration if you don’t want to pay a sky-high traffic ticket for speeding in a work zone.

Choose a lane and stay there
Jumping back and forth rarely saves you much time, so it’s probably best to stay put.

Look out for the work crew and construction vehicles
The workers are undoubtedly doing their best to keep everyone’s safety in mind, but it’s a good idea for you to be extra careful, too.

Be mindful of other drivers
Allow a little extra room between you and the car in front of you, and allow other drivers to merge when necessary.
