Drivers: Be extra careful during the back-to-school rush

August 12th, 2013 by

School bells across Indiana will be ringing once again this week, which means traffic could be a little more congested than normal. But don’t fret – things usually settle down once everyone settles into their new before- and after-school routines.

In the meantime, do what you can to make sure you – and neighborhood children – stay safe.

Leave a few minutes early. It’s hard to know exactly where traffic hiccups may occur, and a little extra time may put you at ease during your commute. (Plus, you’ll likely make better judgments when you’re not stressed about being late.)

Slow down. Remember that little ones may dash in a flash, so driving slowly is must.

Reduce distractions. Turn down the tunes, and put your cell phone away while you’re behind the wheel. It’s important to be especially alert near schools and school bus stops.
