Help … I have squeaky brakes!

Have you ever noticed that your brakes sometimes squeak when you apply light pressure at low speed? Rest assured, this is fairly common, and in many cases, is no cause for concern.

For starters, the squealing noise occurs when brake pads vibrate against the rotating brake disc. Under normal driving conditions, this is normal.

Sometimes, however, the level of vibration is more intense. Outside air temperature and humidity can be a factor. So can road conditions, like mud, dust and salt.

If you’re still concerned – or if the squealing noise is abnormally loud – you may want to have your brake pads checked. They could be worn down and need to be replaced.
