Road Trip Games and Tips

Summer travel season is upon us, and Don Ayres Honda wants to make 2011 your best year yet! Join us each Friday as we provide fun tips for anyone planning to head out on a fabulous summer adventure. We’ll share travel trivia, boredom busters and super songs. (Go ahead … crank up the radio and sing to your heart’s content!) Here’s to a great ride!

This week, we’re sharing a few simple games that are sure to inspire loads of laughter. Even better? All you need is your imagination!

I Spy
One player is designated “It.” He or she then takes note of an object located in or out of the car and says, “I spy with my little eye, something that is (fill in the blank).” The person who is “It” may choose to describe the object’s shape, color or purpose. Other players have to guess what the object is. Players take turns being “It.”

License Plate Game
Look for odd combinations of license plate letters and use them to create silly phrases. TYR might be “Tickle Yesterday’s Raindrops,” or “Teensy Yellow Roadrunner.” The sillier, the better!

Alphabet Game
Beginning with the letter A, each player looks for a word on a road sign or billboard that starts with that letter. Each player then proceeds through the alphabet, finding words for each letter along the way. (Cities with lots of billboards make this game especially fun!) The first person to reach Z wins! (For Q and X, you might choose to allow words that simply contain the letter – but it’s your choice!)
