What should you do if you blow a tire?

Fortunately, tire blowouts are pretty rare. Still, it’s a good idea to know what you should do if this ever happens to you:

  • First of all, don’t panic! (Yes, we realize that’s easier said than done.) Try to remain calm, which will help you remain in control of your vehicle.
  • Don’t slam the brakes. This could throw your vehicle off-balance.
  • Gradually release the accelerator. If you let your foot off the accelerator too quickly, you’ll cause the vehicle to transfer its weight from the rear tires to the front tires, and this can cause you to lose control.
  • Adjust your steering as needed. As you slow down, gently steer your car toward the side of the road.
